Infographic: Most Talked about Olympic Sponsors Part 3
The London 2012 Olympic Games have come to an end, but we’ve still got one final awards ceremony left before we wrap up our coverage of the first ever “Socialympics.”
As we’ve seen throughout our coverage of the Summer Games, McDonalds’ controversial Olympic sponsorship continues to spark conversation online. Doctor’s aren’t the only ones blasting McDonalds’ Olympic sponsorship, celebrities are also joining in the conversation, expressing their confusion over the decision. Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine tweeted, ”@adamlevine McDonald’s continues to be the ‘official restaurant of the Olympics.’ That will never make sense to me.” Nevertheless, McDonald’s takes home the gold for the third time, securing the title of Most Talked about Olympic Sponsor.
We saw a much tighter race between Coca-Cola and Samsung for the runner-up spot. The two have been neck and neck throughout the Olympics, but in the end Coca-Cola’s event sponsorships, YouTube videos and Olympic-style cans helped them edge out Samsung for the silver.
Here are the official results from Opening Ceremonies through the conclusion of the Olympic Games:
- GOLD: McDonald’s with 146,377 mentions
- SILVER: Coca-Cola with 39,111 mentions
- BRONZE: Samsung with 30,790 mentions
